Consistency on the One Handed Backhand .
Tennis Lesson
If you try to analyse the Modern One Handed Backhand you will see many, many variables
The endings are different, they depend on the intention of the stroke and the height of the contact point.
The position of the feet can also be totally different if the player is defending, attacking or in a deep or aggressive position.
However, whether defending, attacking… Whether the ball is high or low, the take-back of the backhand is very consistent. Always similar or the same.
The correct take back position is essential for consistent powerful hitting.
Instead of examining the many different reference points that are involved to achieve the perfect stroke foundation we suggest that you concentrate on one position.
If you correctly achieve this position then all of the other reference points required for a great stroke just drop into place.
Take the racket back and find a position where the racket is behind the left shoulder and at head height. This should result in you being able to see the corner of the court through the racket strings.
The angle of the racket may vary depending on the type of backhand grip but the consistent factor is that the racket forms a frame that you can see the corner of the court through.
The correct take back is synonymous with consistency and if you find the “Look Behind You”position then it is almost impossible to get the technique wrong.
