The service, the simplist and yet most complex of strokes.
Like building a house, the foundation of the service is essential, and yet it is so often ignored in traditional coaching systems.
In today’s One Minute Tennis lesson we are going to explain the service starting position, the foundation of the serve.
When beginning the serve, it is important that:
the feet are in a comfortable position, and if we drew a line from the end of the feet into the court it would more or less point into the service box that we are aiming for
the ball is touching the racket and the arms are low, about pocket height and relaxed
this results in relaxed shoulders which is essential to powerful serving
The racket should then be pointing into the target area, not out to the side
Then the desire to go up, before going down must be resisted.
Try to use the word “Separate” as the arms part and the service begins
