You need great footwork to control your volley, especially when the ball is hit at speed or if you are trying to put high balls away.
The emphasis that traditional coaches put on volley footwork is that the correct foot is used to prepare for the ball. However, the timing of the movement of the feet is often more important than the technique of the footwork.
When we hit groundstrokes the feet are ideally planted and firm as we begin the stroke. The movement of the feet then occurs as the player pushes from this solid foundation.
The Volley is just the opposite and the step should take place as exactly as the stroke occurs.
This is often a problem for players to execute. The volley is the sprint part of the game with little time to think.
Here is a simple but easy solution that results in great volley footwork every single time.
